What is Direct Admission in Engineering?
Direct admission refers to securing a seat in a B.E. or B.Tech programme without going through the KCET (Karnataka Common Entrance Test) merit-based counselling process. Instead, the college fills these seats through its own internal allotment mechanism under quotas defined and regulated by the Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) and the Government of Karnataka.

It does not mean bypassing eligibility requirements or academic standards. Students must still meet the minimum academic criteria set by the respective college and Karnataka’s regulatory bodies. What changes is the selection mechanism — merit through KCET is replaced by the college’s own criteria, often weighted heavily by management discretion, NRI sponsorship, or institutional preference.
